This past Sunday about 75 of our LDC dancers and families joined forces and danced in the annual Waukesha Christmas parade. The parade has always been a fun tradition we have at Liberty Dance Center. It’s an event that we open to EVERY one of our dancers. So we have sweet 4 year olds, seasoned teens and all ages in between that participate.
Spreading Joy and Happiness
We have done the parade for most of our 15 years in business and we weren’t going to allow what happened last year stop us from doing what we do…using our love and gift of dance to spread joy and happiness in our community.
I will admit I was nervous when I had to send the first email to our dance families announcing the details of the parade. I wanted to make sure what I wrote adequately expressed the respect I have for each and every one of our families’ unique experiences and feelings about the parade. And I know that everyone was (and is) in a different place mentally and emotionally and wanted to make sure that was respected.
When the parade organizers called in late summer asking if we would be there, I told them YES! It may just be my husband driving the truck with the music and me dancing by myself behind it, but we will be there for our community as we strive to always be.
We are Waukesha Strong
I was so happy to see such a great turnout from our dancers that danced with us in the parade. And to see the BIG crowds of people that lined the streets of the parade cheering us and everyone else on was breathtaking. And to read the comments we heard from those that were watching and supporting from home, was heartwarming. It truly was a beautiful sight and healing in so many ways for so many people.
So I hope our dancing brought some joy and healing to our community. Sometimes, we struggle to find the right words in times like these, but I have found time and time again that the magic of dance always does the trick.
