Every dancer wants to reach their ultimate goal whether it is to become a professional dancer or just to have dance become an important part of their life.
Whatever your goal is, below are a few tips to help you become the “best you can be” as a dancer.
Create a Mission Statement
Think about the goal you want to set for yourself as a dancer and take the time to really focus on what that goal is and put it down on paper.
Writing out your goals improves your chances of reaching those goals. It is helpful to make the written goal short and simple. Make sure the goal resonates with what your mind and heart want dance to become for you.
Once you write out that goal, make sure you put that goal in prominent places so that you will see it every day. The mirror in your bedroom or bathroom or on your dance bag are some examples.
This step will help you keep the focus on what you want to become as a dancer and hopefully motivate you to do everything you can do to reach that goal.
Recognize the Strengths You Have as a Dancer
All dancers are different in terms of body style, technique, and a host of other attributes. Take the time to ask yourself what your strengths are as a dancer and learn to appreciate what you are good at.
Work to make these strengths even stronger, and you will grow as a dancer and dance with even more confidence.
Likewise, be honest with yourself as to what areas you need to work on, and bring that part of dancing to an even higher level.
Ask your teachers how you can work on different areas of your dancing that need improvement. With practice and commitment you will bring these elements of your dancing up to par with the strengths you possess as a dancer.
Learn How to Bring Your Personality Into Your Dancing
Yes, talent is important in making you the dancer you will become, but don’t forget to let your personality come out every time you dance, whether practicing or performing in competitions or auditions.
Letting your personality shine on the dance floor will bring your dancing to a higher level and show people how much you love dancing. Don’t overlook this important part of every great dancer.
Embrace Your Talent and Have Fun
Take all your God-given talent, your hours of practice honing your dance skills, and your love for dance and you will become the best dancer you can be.
Every time you take the stage, give it your best and make sure your performance is “memorable”.
