They say there are two types of people in the world… ones who see the glass half full and ones who see it as half empty. Optimists and pessimists. Those with growth mindsets and those with fixed mindsets. Sometimes, we even bounce back and forth between 2 types!
This past year has brought on more challenges than most of us have ever experienced in life. In what felt like a snap of the fingers, our lives were turned upside down. Dance class and school were now done in our living rooms in front of a computer. Our big plans for the spring were “maybe” going to happen? No one quite knew what the future held, but what we did know was that it shook us and our lives to the core.
Now that we are almost a year into this global pandemic, I find myself reflecting back quite often at all the things that have changed. Yes, some we hope will go back to “normal” eventually, but being the optimist that I am, I feel that there were LOTS of silver linings and that you just need to really look for them. Here are my 21 silver linings for 2021, enjoy and let me know if you agree or have others!
- The ability to connect with those far away from us with greater ease.
- More time at home with our loved ones.
- More downtime due to our cleared out schedules!
- Taking time to go for more walks outside.
- Being forced to get creative! Think outside of the box.
- We created LASTING unexpected new memories that we will cherish forever.
- Saving money, by cutting back on unnecessary expenses.
- Dancing in our backyards and getting fresh air!
- Driveway recitals for our neighbors that have never seen us dance.
- You may have learned new skills…how to cook, craft or play an instrument.
- Wearing comfy clothes all day every day! Pants with zippers? No way!
- Finally had time to read more books.
- We can now “zoom” into dance class if we can’t make it in person.
- We truly value our friends and family more than we ever have.
- We appreciate smiles more, when we finally see them from behind a mask.
- Air high fives and elbow bumps are the new fist bump!
- Birthday parades!
- Sidewalk chalk art
- Pen pals and snail mail.
- New hobbies-puzzles, game nights, reading.
- A new found appreciation for life and all that we have ♥
While it’s been nearly a year since our world was turned upside down, that year went by fast! It’s like when you’re a parent…the days were long, but the year flew by. I challenge you to find the silver linings in this new life we are living. There’s plenty of beautiful things out there…you just have to look for them.
