In our last blog, we talked about the concept of the “ready position”. How do we set ourselves up as dancers and as people in order to be successful in the studio and beyond?
This week, we are going to discuss the concept of the ready position as it relates to helping others. Mr. Rogers, beloved tv personality once said, “When I was a child and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, ‘Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.’”
Ready Position – Helping Others
We have seen these words ring true in our studio and community time and time again. When the tragic Waukesha parade incident occurred, we came together as a community to support each other and write messages of hope for the victims and their families.
When Miss Lori’s son Thomas was diagnosed with cancer in 2021, we surged into action to support her family and cover her classes for the remainder of the dance season. There have been countless other times both publicly and behind closed doors when the studio has stepped up to help someone in their time of need.
What are some ways we can be ready to help in the studio and community at large?
Be a leader
See someone who looks a little lost in the lobby? Point them where to go. Is a friend having a hard time in class? Ask them how their day was and listen to how they feel. Small acts of kindness make a big difference.
Keep an eye out for the many events that Miss Lori is going to be coordinating this dance season! Miss Lori is in the running for the title of Mrs. Wisconsin 2024 and her platform is childhood cancer research and blood donation.
As Mrs. Southeastern Wisconsin, Miss Lori plans to use her title to broaden her reach for these very important causes. One way you can help is by signing up for a blood drive.
We have an interest survey signup sheet at the front desk. It is by no means a binding commitment if you sign up, it just helps us gauge interest to make the event worthwhile for Versiti Blood Center to come out to the studio and coordinate the event.
Once we have 30 people signed up we can work to schedule the blood drive! 11 people are currently on the list. Throughout the season, Miss Lori will be doing toy drives for the MACC fund, hosting a royal ball at the studio as a fundraiser for a pediatric cancer foundation, and volunteering for events and appearances that are relevant to her cause. Keep your eyes peeled for how you can help.
Be a helper
If you see something out of place at the studio or at school, put it in the lost and found. Pick up and throw away garbage you see inside or on the street. Hold the door for someone who has their hands full. Small acts add up.
The more we care for each other, even in small gestures, the better off the world is for it!
