Recital weekend is just around the corner! Our dancers have been working hard all year and now is their time to shine onstage.
Whether it’s your child’s first recital or you’re a veteran dance parent, it’s worth taking a look at the list below to make sure your dancer is recital-ready! Read on to find out what essentials you and your dancer should pack for performance time.
1. Dance Costumes, Tights, and Dance Shoes
This is the most obvious, but sometimes it makes this category the most overlooked. Beyond just the dancer’s costume, make sure they have all the accessories to go with it, such as hairpieces or gloves. It never hurts to pack an extra pair or two of tights just in case.
Also, make sure your dancer has the appropriate shoes for the style of each dance they are performing. If your dancer is in multiple routines, it can be helpful to make a list of each costume and its accessories as well as the style of dance shoe (and the list of which show you perform each dance in), and check it off as you go while you pack for the theater.
2. “Emergency” Kits
These are more for older dancers who have multiple costume changes and can handle getting ready independently. A dance emergency kit can include: hair ties, Bobby pins, hair spray, safety pins, double stick tape, and makeup for touch-ups. These things are all helpful in case of a makeup, hair or costume snafu backstage.
While this list covers the basics, the most important thing you can bring to recital is your excitement and love of dance! All of the teachers and staff are here to help. Our motto during recital time is, “everything is fixable.” We can’t wait to get to the theater and see everyone in the spotlight!
