Life’s big moments are exciting. This time of the year, our schedules become swamped with them. Prom, Spring concerts, sporting events, end-of-the-year celebrations at school, graduations, the list goes on. The older your children get, the fuller your calendar becomes. Of course, the biggest event of our dance season is coming up… Recital 2023! No one wants to miss out on a memory. Here are some fun ways to capture the moments on the big day.
Take a yearly recital photo with your dancer at home
Include a landmark like a tree in the yard, or include a special item of theirs. As the years go by and they grow, it will be a fun comparison to see how their surroundings change with them.
Save dance costumes
Yes, you heard me correctly. Save your child’s dance costumes. When they are little, they’ll have fun playing dress up in them after the recital has passed. When they grow older, it’s a good idea to keep a few of them on hand, too.
Growing up, I had a babysitter who was one of three girls. They’d saved many of the beautiful dance costumes in their family and she brought them along for dress up when she’d come to watch me. It was pure magic for a little girl and continued to foster my love of dance.
Even as your dancers grow up and go their own ways in life, hang onto just one or two special costumes. My mom saved my first dance costume, a very 90’s colorful, sparkly and ruffled affair that I wore for my “Calypso Girl” tap class. Now that one of my daughters is two and a half, she was able to fit into it for dress up. That was an extra special treat for both my mom and I.
Invest in a yearly post-recital gift for your dancer
Liberty partners with local businesses so that you can order a personalized stuffed animal or candy bouquet for your child. You can also show your dancer some special attention by placing an ad for them in our digital program. Links to order forms for both of these great opportunities can be found here: Stuffed animals or Candy bouquets
Just be there!
Be present in the moment. Enjoy it with your kids. At the end of the day, they will remember who was there cheering them on and showing them love. There’s nothing better than the support of loved ones for raising your kids into healthy, happy people. This is what makes Liberty Dance Center “More than Just Great Dancing!”
