The primary purpose for dance studios is to provide high quality dance education. On top of that, a dance studio should also provide opportunities to participate in performances and competitions. But should a dance studio provide even more to the children they teach?
We think so! Over our next series of blogs, we will provide ideas on how local dance studios can have a greater impact in their community.
Our dance studio is the only studio in the area to be YPAD certified. YPAD stands for Youth Protection Advocates in Dance, and the main objective is to provide a happy, healthy and safe dance environment for students and families. The YPAD provides dance professionals with the skills and resources to protect developing dancers. Through online courses, the YPAD educates communities on how to create an environment focused on the well-being of kids and a sustainable, safe future for dance.
The first element of YPAD certification is the Safety course.
YOUTH PROTECTION ADVOCATES IN DANCE® SAFETY COURSE
The YPAD Safety Course uses four modules with the necessary resources needed to teach and serve young dancers. This Safety course highlights the practices required to create a healthy dance environment for today’s youth and future generations. Dance professionals can expect to learn about the following core areas: practices including background checks and CPR/First Aid, abuse awareness & prevention, injury prevention & response, and safety & emergency preparedness.
Our next blog post on this topic will provide information on another element of the YPAD certification program which helps impact students in a positive way.
