What is one thing we can probably all agree on during the holidays? They can be STRESSFUL! Jam-packed schedules, gifts to buy, traditions to uphold… the list goes on. One way to combat this holiday stress is by helping others. It’s been shown that when you help others, you help yourself.
Mayo Clinic states that volunteering or giving back “leads to lower rates of depression and anxiety, reduces stress, and increases positive feelings by releasing dopamine”. Dopamine is the “feel good” chemical in our brains.
Most of us think, “Well, I don’t have time to go to bat for a bigger cause! I can barely keep up with my own (insert personal excuse here: finances, family, commitments, etc.)
Giving back or “going to bat” for others doesn’t have to be hard or financially costly. Here are some great ways you can support the greater good right here at Liberty Dance Center!
Going to Bat
- Bring new or gently used coats into the studio for the coat drive we are participating in. There is a bin near the front entrance for collections. These coats will help kids directly in our own community and the greater Milwaukee area.
- Donate a gift for one of the families we are sponsoring for Christmas Clearing Council this year. One financially savvy way to give is to coordinate with other dance families and see if someone wants to go in on a gift together. Then you can be generous without breaking the bank!
- Check out a charitable company such as Headbands of Hope when buying holiday gifts this year. Headbands of Hope donates an item to a child fighting serious illness for every item purchased. As most of you know, Miss Lori’s 4-year-old son Thomas is a cancer survivor. Miss Lori is a big childhood cancer advocate and also an ambassador for this company. Shop her referral link and use code MISSLORI for $5 off your order!
Also, keep in mind that here at Liberty Dance Center, we are a family. We are ready to go to bat for YOU if you ever need us to. As things get hectic this holiday season, just breathe and remember there are many ways we can help ourselves by helping others.
