Darby’s Dancers

Something special is happening in the arts in Waukesha County!

We are so proud of the Darby’s Dancers program we started at Liberty Dance Center in 2017 to serve dancers with special needs. Our Darby’s Dancers program provides weekly dance classes and gives the dancers a chance to develop a love for dance and performance. The program also provides the dancers with the chance to meet new friends, learn new skills and get some healthy exercise.

Each dancer is partnered with a “Big Sister”, a teenage dancer that volunteers their time, to assist the dancer in class and provide extra, personalized support for the dancer.

Darby’s Dancers is a national non-profit 501(c)(3) organization located in Alabama. We were the 20th chapter of this program nationwide and the 2nd in Wisconsin. It now has more than 60 chapters across the country and keeps growing!

Through the support of Liberty Dance Center, local businesses like Culver’s on Grandview in Waukesha and donations, the program is offered at minimal expense to the participating families.

Darby's Dancers Testimonial

"I came to Saturday’s show to watch my niece at the dance recital. I was impressed with the dance and performers, however, the one that touched me the most was the beautiful performance with the dancers with special needs and their partners. As I sat there holding my infant son who has Down Syndrome, I couldn’t help but feel so thankful for programs like this that exist for him. I can only hope that he is able to participate in something as positive as you have set up for these dancers and their families. Everyone on the stage during this dance was glowing and I guarantee it meant more to these families than you will ever know. Thank you for this uplifting experience."
