If you’re already taking summer dance classes, fantastic! We love seeing you in class each week. We also know that summers can get very busy, very fast and not everyone can commit to summer classes. Here are some fun ways to include dance in your everyday life!
Practice your Leaps
You don’t need a studio space to practice leaps. You can leap across the lawn or on a trampoline! Or you can even do dance jumps off the diving board at the pool. Think beyond your standard grand jetes: tuck jump, calypso, toe touch, attitude leaps. The sky’s the limit!
Stretch
Stay flexible by stretching this summer. You can stretch while watching TV, reading a book, or even while hanging out at the beach. The more you stretch, the more you maintain your skills.
Create a Dance Obstacle Course
Using hula hoops, plastic cones, beach balls, and other summer toys, you can create your own obstacle course! Leap through the hula hoops, grapevine through the cones, do a pirouette balancing a beach ball in your arms. You can get creative and draw a chalk obstacle course as well. For example you could do: Chaine turn down the chalk line, leap around the chalk circle, jazz walk down the zig-zag chalk line. Your own creativity is key!
Create your Own Dances
Summer is the best time to let loose and get creative with your friends! Pick a song you like and get to work choreographing! You can perform your dance for family and friends on your deck, driveway, in your backyard, or your basement! The world is your stage. We’d love to see any dances you come up with, so send them our way on the studio Facebook page!
Whatever you’re up to this summer, stay safe, keep your body moving and have fun incorporating dance into your summer routine!
