A little goes a long way. I’m sure we have all heard that saying before. But what does it really mean?
Well, this month at Liberty Dance Center we got to see that in action. For the second year in a row, we did a penny drive. We asked our dancers to bring in their pennies and fill a half gallon glass jar.
The pennies trickled in, slowly but surely. And last night, when the drive ended we had a FULL (and very heavy) jar.
But here’s the fun part. Yesterday, we posted a photo of the jar to have our students guess how many are actually in there. The guesses ranged from 500 to over 2,000! I took them to be counted and we ended up with 2,410 pennies!! That…is a great example of a little bit of effort from many people, adds up to BIG results.
A Little Goes A Long Way
The cool part is that for every penny we collected, Liberty Dance Center donated one DOLLAR to the MACC Fund, up to $1000. And, we got an additional donation of $100 from a family, which Liberty also matched. So together we donated $1,200 to the MACC Fund to help fight childhood cancer.
The winner, who was announced last night, got the amount of pennies, plus a match. We rounded that up to a solid $50 for the winner!
It was so fun to watch the kids’ faces all month as they watched the jar get fuller and fuller. It was a physical example of how little by little things can really grow and change.
We hope that not only do our students see the power we have as a dance community to make a difference in the world. But also that those little, seemingly insignificant efforts, really do add up and can make great things happen!
Thank you to everyone who donated!
